Tbh, not looking to go that far myself - just trying to create an impression of something 'period', along the lines of a M1 Carbine / Mk5 'Jungle' Carbine

I was thinking along the same lines, wanted a short bolt action which I could use for ww2 and post war. I was thinking of the well mb02, using the same ideas from my no.4 conversion. I planned a dummy mag, a wood top foregrip, lose about a foot off the front end of the outer barrel and replace it with a smaller diameter outer, then fabricate a flashhider and front sight. Think I could knock it up in a couple of evenings but I`m loathe to spend anything at the moment as I just don`t get out on the field at all. :roll:

What about using a standard PSG1 magazine? If I recall, they are 20 round capacity and could be modified to look more "correct" externally.

Hi, I started trying to do this using a cyma M14 SOCOM as the basis. I am too busy at the moment and have enough other guns to use so it is on the back burner.

Regarding the mags, I got cheap 100rnd M14 mags, removed the spring through the bottom hatch, cut them in half, cut off the bottom and glued it back on, cut the spring down and put it in and hatch back on. It takes about 20 min in total (if the glue is a quick cure one) but you only get 12 bbs out of a mag (17 if you turn it upside down). The M14 feed tube is very long and the mags don't push out as well as other types. If you like playing real caps, it is an option?

One benefit is they actually fit in the G43 pouches!

Looks great Neil, about time the German had some range on semi autoness. AGM M14/M1 Garand outranges the MP40 by a considerable amount!

How widespread was this rifle in service during the war? I know on WW2 computer games they are abundance, but have no idea who used them.

The G43 / K43 was not uncommon after 1943, but the K98 was far and away the most common weapon.

little bit of a disaster las night..... have to recast some of the parts..... sigh.... im trying to cast is so that the sight block fits over the hop holder of the m14, which makes it very thin in places i broke it last night by cutting away too much excess plastc...... back to the drawing board....... ill get there in the end.......

Keep going fella!

@ Steiner, you only ever come across the SS in computer games having them, such as Fally always have MP44s or FG42s! I guess the game makers can't be bothered to assemble a squad with a variety of guns!

Keep at it, old chum. G43 is one weapon I'd really love to have. I guess you're using the Chinese M14 - my one reservation with those is the selector switch problem. They eventually all seem to break and go full-auto only. Anybody know if there is a fix for that ?

Approximately 400,000 G43s were manufactured, about the same as the MP44. (FG42 - only about 5000 of those made, or less!) The K98 numbered in millions. It was late 44 before the MP44 was starting to be issued en masse to units - quite commonly to Volkssturm, I think I read - to give them extra firepower to make up for their lack of training. Would've made more sense to give the best weapons to the best troops, perhaps... :roll:

lol yeah, never mind huh! I had a fire selecter problem on the AGM M14 (which is the base gun of my M1) when i took it apart the trigger mechanism had oozed grease everywhere, and as a result of which every dust particle and it's mate became stuck. In the end it was that which prevented the contacts being made, once I had cleaned and reassembled the mechanism the single fire worked fine again.

If you don't have a base gun already I believe the cyma version is the one most people recommend. I think they fixed the fire selector problem too.

As I'm using a g43 stock for my one I won't be able to use the original trigger so I'm planning to set the gearbox to full-auto and then use a programmable mosfet to set it to semi-auto, to deal with any lockups I'll have a switch that will by-pass the mosfet allowing the gun to run fully-auto in a similar way to the Star SLR.

Here are a couple of places that do mosfets;

resin.... I am trying to get them right and when i'm finished i will probably have them recast in metal, I am trying to design it so that it all just screws onto the m14 receiver....... sort of like a kit that needs alot of finishing.... :) :shock:
